Daily Discovery #14: Awir Leon

An open landscape. It’s peaceful. Its just you and your thoughts. That’s where this electronic track by AWIR LEON takes you.

Sitting So High opens with the buzzing noise of silence and a repetitive beat with purposeful glitches. If you like James Blake you’re in for a treat. The sound of air makes the track spacious and gives you a sense of being alone. As it progresses, it builds with new electronic sounds added. The music gets louder and drowns out the vocals. It’s like your mind being overwhelmed as your thoughts get too much. There’s no doubt it is a really well produced track. A journey.

Released to complement the track is the music video. Awir Leon directed it himself and it matches the track perfectly. Filmed on a coal mountain near where he grew up, it features just Awir and open space. Time is physically slowed in the video. It perfectly mirrors the track which seems to freeze time with its repetitive hypnotic feel.

The video is the first of a three part series, the beginning of his story.

Awir Leon is now based in Amsterdam but he grew up in France.  He’s also one third of the electro pop group UNNO.

Awir Leon’s debut album Giants will be released on October 14th with French label Nowadays Records.
