Daily Discovery #21: Haarlo

Dreamy vocals and an evolving synth backing. This new release by HAARLO is a simple electro-pop track with a strong impact.

Haarlo is the collaboration of New Zealand vocalist Stacey Gardiner and Australian producer Jono Steer. Jono’s production credits include Hiatus Kaiyote, Ainslie Wills and Ben Abraham so it’s no wonder this track is incredibly smooth.

Loves Gone is their newest release following on from their debut EP Dreamlands in 2013, and their single Easier. Surprisingly, the duo have said Loves Gone was never actually planned to be released:

“This song has always had a special place in our hearts. It started off as a live jam that we’d play at our shows, but we always had people asking where they could find the recorded version… so we made one!” – Haarlo

It’s introduced with soft and slow synth notes paired with the calm vocals of Stacey. When the slow relaxing drum beats come in the chorus hits and you’re swept into the dreamy track. It’s soothing electro-pop with soulful vocals. Throughout the track there are breaks for the drum beat which keeps the track changing and building throughout.

Unfortunately previous tracks have all been deleted from their Soundcloud but the Melbourne pair are back in the studio. They are currently working on they next EP which is set to be released later this year.
