Daily Discovery #53: EXES
EXES show how vulnerable we all can be with their latest release, ‘Dear, Home’
People are boring. Who has time for conversation these days? Unless, of course, it’s via some form of portable device beamed to us on 4 inch screens. Despite how connected we all can be, who hasn’t felt alone and homesick? In their most recent release, Venice Beach duo, EXES tap straight into that detached state.
With comparisons to the recent works of School of Seven Bells, Allie McDonald and her musical counterpart Mike Derenzo have taken their time to craft each element of the record. Describing the song Allie says it’s dedicated to the ‘pieces of my heart I left back East. The parts of me still beating in that small town where I grew up.’ Citing that it’s one of the most personal songs she’s ever written. On listening, you’ll be in agreement.
With a spiritual, intimate sound the record glides through your senses. It’s like the embodiment of a dream or your head visualising home. Allie’s vocals are sublime, matched with the detailed production by Mike. As a taster to their forthcoming EP, EXES have created something truly compelling.
The EP is due for release on the 7th of October and is themed around ‘The Art of Saying Goodbye’ Not one for the party playlist then.
